August 5, 2025 On the Road Again

Tuesday, August 5, 2025

The big house that moves is here.  I took a nap in it.  That means my humans are going to capture me and take me away.  I think I will go hide.

It’s getaway day for us.  Artie is all dressed up and ready to go.  Where is Rudy?  Darn it!  Not under the bed… not in the garage…  not here, not there.  That little bastard!  We have to find him before the carpet cleaner comes.  (We clean our carpet, then leave so it will have weeks to dry).  Oh, there he is behind the chair.  I grab him…  he whines!  Too bad!

We are heading to Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  Spouse’s sister, Kay is there, and she is in failing health.  We need to assess her situation and see if there is anything we can do for her.  Our mission is to get there, hopefully without dilly dallying.  Once there, we can figure out where we want to go and what we want to do.  But for today… it is get out of California!

Where we used to take the Pearblossom Hwy. to Victorville, we now go out of our way to Mojave, then catch the 58 to Barstow.  It is about 20 miles farther, but far easier.  There are no so many lights on the Pearblossom Hwy, it takes forever to navigate.

Spouse and I rotate driving.  We have a new truck, and it is so nice to drive, even with Artie behind us.  But, it would be better if there were no semis on the road!  I hate them!

It is warm.  Correction, it is hot!  Across the desert, through the hellhole of Las Vegas, there was a semi broke down in the middle of the freeway making it a miserable drive.  Once we passed it, smooth sailing all the way to Mesquite.  This is a long day of driving, but we just wanted to make time.

We have not seen very many RV’s on the road at all.   We were able to get a primo spot (space 42) at the Casa Blanca, where we did not have to disconnect.  On with the air conditioners!  It is 109!  In to the casino to eat as we are too tired to cook.  Gamed a little, but that was enough.

It is dark, and still 100 degrees…  And the heatwave starts tomorrow!
