August 9, 2025 Nebraska and its corn
My human walked me around and there was this critter that looked like a blob. Then it jumped real far! It was amazing! I wanted to go chase it but a dog came out so I ran back to the big house that moves.
I took Rudy
for a little walk this morning. He was
amazed when he saw a toad take a leap.
If the neighbor’s dog didn’t make a noise, I might have had trouble
controlling our little beast!
Our morning
walk took us down to the lake. We walked
down a launch ramp, a LONG launch ramp, with weeds, that ended nowhere close to
the water. Something tells me that the
water level is on the lower side! While
Spouse went to check out the RV area, I hoofed across the sand down to the
water. Several RVs are camped on the
sand, similar to Pismo Beach. I, too,
checked out the RV park. There were
plenty of available spaces. Yesterday
when we came in, we were told by the entrance person to ‘call this
number’. It is a direct number and they
should be able to help us… We called the
number… and thus begins ‘reservation
hell.’ They referred you to one of the
gazillion apps that are used for reservations, such as Reserve America, or
Recreation.gov. All RV sites were in use
according to them, but I must not have had the secret code for THIS particular
area. Yet, when we walked in, there was
a sign that said to go to the visitor center for same day campsite
assignments. The problem is, you can’t
drive to the point where you can see the sign, and the old biddy never
mentioned that. It shouldn’t be this
difficult!
Oh well, we
had a nice, quiet site for last night. If we are ever this way again, we know
what to do.
Yesterday, we
went through reservation hell trying to get a site in Lake Itasca State Park,
which is the headwaters of the Mississippi.
We figured we would go after Sioux Falls. Using the phone was so painful. Since we had internet service, we got on the
laptop. We had to use their site, which
almost gives you some information! At
this point, we think we have a site with electricity and that is big enough for
us, but who knows! My internet service died right after I got my confirmation! And… another online reservation method. ARGH!
Anyway, back
to Artie, we showered and readied for departure. We took a beautiful back road that took us to
I80. Once we get to Sioux Falls, NO MORE
INTERSTATES! We love these back roads!
The speed
limit on I80 is 75. Unlike California
which limits trucks to 55, every other state has one limit for all
vehicles. As a result, traffic moves
much smoother. So even though we are
sharing the road with Semis, they are moving right along.
We ended up in York, Nebraska for the night. We picked up some fresh corn on the cob along the way. Mmmm, so sweet!
