I really
like it here. My humans let me do lots
of exploring. There are lots of critters
here too. I want one. I know I can get one…
Today, we
are playing golf. I found a course just over the Iowa state border in Larchwood
that is a regulation 9 hole course. I
would play 36 holes, but Spouse is good with 9, so that is what it will
be. They said the course was wide open
on Wednesday so we could easily walk right on.
So off we went. A couple of
offramps south, then left at the Tea offramp.
It is a rural road and the morning traffic rush is evident coming the
other way. For us… getting behind a piece of farm equipment is
maddening. Waiting for a break in the
morning rush to get around the guy took some time, then once we were able to
pass, it happens again. After a couple
of miles, we were able to drive freely.
The country side is beautiful. It
has rolling hills with corn fields and soy fields, some cattle and some very
nice farm houses. At one turn, we saw a
golf course… hmmm… this is closer… but on we went.
We got to
the course and was told it was closed for a tournament! So much for getting the ok to play
Wednesday! We headed back to the course
we saw on our way here. It is Spring
Creek. The starter told me it is
technically in South Dakota, but a bit of it somewhere slides in to Iowa. I don’t know if we played that piece but if
you asked if I ever golfed Iowa, I would say yes. I might be lying, I might not! I don’t recall tripping over the state line
as I walked around… They had no walking
carts, so I had to ride in a cart. This
is always a problem for me, as invariably, Spouse takes off and I don’t have
the right club. I still end up walking a
lot between shots for my own entertainment.
They put us
on the back nine. We had it to ourselves
and it was heaven. The course is hilly
and has lots of hazards. 3 par 3’s, 3
par 4’s, and 3 par 5s. Course knowledge
would have been real helpful! I lost a
ball on my first swing in some schmutz in the middle of the fairway. There were blind shots that if I knew what
was ahead, I would have played to a different part of the fairway. While the card showed the layout of the
holes, it didn’t show that there were creeks and hazards weaving in and out. The greens were diabolical. Downhill putts were killers. And playing the breaks were treacherous. But, we still had fun! I only lost one ball. Spouse found more than he lost! Spouse was actually hitting the ball very
good! We had a beautiful course to
ourselves with perfect weather. For what
more could you ask!
We got back
and dumped the clubs, and headed back to THAT restaurant where we got the
ticket. Spouse loves it. I like it, but
I hate the parking around there. We
still have the bikes on a rack behind the truck which makes our truck
longer. We found a spot on the street
where we pretty much fit. They could get
technical on us though. We brought
quarters this time. After lunch, we
walked around and met a parking enforcer and he told us that he has to ticket
you if you are a quarter inch over any line.
I told Spouse we better get back because we were at least an inch too
long with the bikes! We saw another
truck parked over the line. Spouse
warned the guy.
We stopped
for an oil change, then at Dairy Queen to buy Kay a blizzard. We then visited Kay. She was in a movable chair contraption, so we
took her outside for some fresh air, which she seemed to like. Alas… not much to say here…
Looking good girl!
