Sunday, August 10, 2025 Are We There Yet?

Sunday, August 10, 2025 Are We There Yet?

What’s that noise?  Why are there lights flashing?  Why are we shaking?  I better snuggle in with my human.

Wow, what a thunderstorm last night.  It felt like bombs were exploding next to us.  Bolt after bolt of lightening with groundshaking thunder and rain pounded us relentlessly.  But I was able to fall back to sleep.  I actually slept until 6:56!  For me, that was a treat, as I rarely sleep past 6.

The roads were wet from the rains, so we decided to get our walk in doing other things.  While Spouse fueled up, I walked over to the store and got a few things.  Spouse met me over there and we walked the perimeter of the parking lot.  We stopped for breakfast at a Cracker Barrel (I really don’t like that place but it was easy parking).  After eating, we walked a bit.   We walked a bit at the rest stops.  We got our steps in.

Nebraska is green.  The Platte River winds in and out of I80.  There are some low, rolling hills.  You can tell there are streams based on the riparian vegetation and trees gathering in spots.  There are fields of corn, fields of alfalfa, fields of cattle grazing.  It is GREEN.

We continued east on I80, then north on 680 bypassing Omaha.  We cross the Missouri River into Iowa turning north on I29.  We took one look at the northern sky and knew we were going to get wet.  We were listening to a podcast and had to put it on pause as the rain was so loud we couldn’t hear the radio.  It rained, it stopped.  It rained it stopped.  By the time we got to Sioux City, the rain was gone.  From there, it was an easy drive.  Crossing into South Dakota was seamless.  The cornfields look exactly the same as the cornfields in Iowa.  Imagine that!  5 days of major driving and Spouse and I are still talking to each other!

We finally got to Sioux Falls, and checked in at our RV park.  She told us the site, and it was a horrible site.  We called her and asked if we could change it to another specific site.   She said yes…  This seemed a little too easy…  Later, somebody came by and said we were in their site…  But they would take the one next to us as they were only there for one night…  A different type of reservation hell…  We’ll make sure all is good if we actually see a person tomorrow.

Rudy liked the site, especially the squirrels...

For now, we are set up and plan on not moving for several days!  We did go and visit Spouse’s sister.  She has had a stroke, and it isn’t pretty.  Spouse showed me where her apartment was, and it is in a great area with lots of parks and walking trails.  We made sure we got the rest of our steps in.

Now, it is time to slow down…
