September 6, 2014 Doing a re-do

Saturday September 6, 2014

My humans are taking way too long to let me out when I want it.  I am working on training them.  I run to the door and jump on the chair and paw at the door.  It works on the paternal human more than it does the maternal human.  I have to work on her some more.

We woke up to a beautiful morning at the marina.  The water was glassy and the sun was shining.  We took a walk around the area, total boater hangout.  Today, we are heading back to the US of A.  We dumped most of our Canadian funny money.  It is about a 2 hour drive to Sault Ste. Marie where we will cross over.

It is a beautiful drive along Lake Huron.  We got to talking and decided that we would cross into the US, transact all the business we needed to do, then head back to Canada and take the road that goes around Lake Superior.  How quickly our plans can change...

It was pretty easy crossing back into the US.  The border agent spent 8 years in Long Beach so he and Spouse really jawed it up.  No bribes needed, he passed us through.  First on the list of things to do... lunch at Taco Bell.  Then to Wal-Mart.

Part of me hates Wal-Mart for what they do to mom and pop shops, but part of me loves them.  We were able to get an oil change, tires rotated, prescription filled and all our grocery shopping done.  Plus, they allow RVs to park overnight in their parking lot.  Since we were not finished with our stuff until well after 5pm, the last thing we wanted to do was hunt down and RV park.  So, Spouse rented some videos, started the generator and the evening was over before we knew it.   The nights are quite cool so we do not need an air conditioner, thus staying off the grid is easy.  It was great to talk to family and friends too.  The phone has been off for over 3 weeks, and it will be off again for however long we take to get back into the states.

These things are significantly less expensive here in the US.  The provincial taxes average 15%... on everything, even golf!  We had to get exhaust fluid while in Canada.  Out the door, it costs $13 at Wal-Mart, $29 in Canada.  One other thing of note about Canada - and this is directed to Quebec...  You big ass city... when you have an intersection with 4 lanes going in both directions, you really should have a street sign that is larger than 2 inches by 18 inches (I kid you not...).  It would be nice to be able to find the sign AND even read it!
