It can get exhausting supervising my humans when we are in the little house that moves.
We both woke up early and thought we would go watch the
stars. This is a dark sky community and
the nights have been amazing. But when
we go outside, somebody had snatched every darned star! There was not one left! Call the police! Oh… those are clouds…
Did my walk around the small area there, then we readied
Hannah for departure. There was a light
cloud cover making it quite comfortable.
I am glad we did our hiking when we did as although this does not look
too threatening, if it rains on the trails we hiked, it could get ugly.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Mavericks, but it is time
to move on. East we go, back through Big
Bend, then north on 385 up to Marathon.
I am sure there really is a town there, but we didn’t see much. Once again… desert… blah blah blah nice rock
formation. Blah blah blah, vultures on a
dead deer. Blah blah blah desert. We turn east on Hwy 90. More desert with high desert scrub and cattle
here and there. As we approached the
town of Sanderson, we saw a gas station.
Then it happened… We are in the
middle of nowhere and Spouse wants me to check Gas Buddy. Are you f’n kidding me? There is probably only one or two gas
stations within a 100 miles and you want me to check Gas Buddy??? Buy the f’n fuel! Fortunately, there was no cell service. He fueled up at the rate that seems to be the
going rate and we moved on. We saw a tiny
restaurant so we stopped.
The Ranch Shack was not much more than a burger shack. The waitress had a .22 pistol strapped to her hip and she was a pistol herself. We both ordered burgers (which is really out of character for me as I am not much of a meat person but I didn’t have a lot of choice). They were delightfully messy and came with French fries. Yummy. Their sign out front was a crack up!
We continued east on 90 into a strong headwind. We were going to make it to Del Rio, but the
wind was kicking ass. We stopped at a
state campground, but it was closed for construction. We ended up in a tiny place in the town of
Comstock. I am sure there is a town
nearby the RV park… maybe…
There is a reservoir nearby that might have some camping but
all we could see did not have electricity.
It is 90 degrees, so air conditioning is a must. We can run the air conditioning with our
generator but not for as long as we probably will need it. And besides, it is the beginning of the
weekend so I would suspect getting a space might be a problem.
It is WINDY! Even if we were at the reservoir, we certainly would NOT be outside enjoying the view in these winds. As it is, we might wake up in Kansas…
We are following you on Google Maps you are close to the border to Mexico. Are you heading for the gulf?
