Links, deer and turkeys

September 2,  2015

They move me to the little house, then the big house, then the little house, then the big house.  Will they make up their mind?  Oh look!  Somewhere new to explore!

Woke up to a cloudy morning.  We took a walk to check out the upper campground.  We walk past the pond that feeds into the Clark Fork River.  Supposedly there are beavers there, but not today.  Oh, there is a sign for a golf course.  Let's go check it out.  We walk down the street then through the woods, and sure enough, a 9 hole course.   Rain is threatening, but we should get the cobwebs off our clubs.  So, we came back and got ourselves ready for the links.  Oh, guess we better pay for another day here, too!

The River Bend Golf Course runs along the Clark Fork River for a few holes.  The rugged mountains are in the background.  It is really quite beautiful.  The conditions are not the best but they aren't bad either.  Sometimes, it is difficult to tell the fairway grass from the fringe grass from afar.  I must say, my irons SUCK!  Spouse didn't take score.  I shot a 54, but I would say at least 8 strokes would come off if I had an iron that worked.  When we get to Coeur d'Alene, driving range is mandatory!  This is the first time Spouse has walked a course for over a year and he did ok.  The sun peeked in and out and we got the clubs in the truck just as a few sprinkles hit.  It never was more than that.

We went to lunch in town at Minnie Montana's diner.  A homey slice of Mayberry with good home cooking.  Meat loaf, pot pies, even liver and onions - not stuff you see a lot.  All of it is homemade and it looked good.  The desserts looked fabulous.  Restraint...

After, we drove some of the streets of the town.  It is not a big town, but it is bigger than it looks.  And there are a gazillion deer all over the place, including fawns that still have their spots.  As we weaved through the streets, it was almost like every house had its own deer, some of them entire herds!  There were also a whole lot of turkeys.  They better watch it... Thanksgiving is just around the corner!

We got back and used the rest of the day to relax.  I really love chocolate.
